Scalp psoriasis

Scalp psoriasis is very common,  affecting up to 80% of all psoriasis patients. Typically, people with scalp psoriasis also have psoriasis on other parts of their bodies, but in some the scalp is the only affected area.

LIVING XTRAC CLEAR.

Because of the shielding effect of hair, traditional UVB lamp therapy is not very effective against scalp psoriasis. However, studies have reported success in treating it with the [XTRAC} 308 nm excimer laser which generates a targeted beam of UVB light.

XTRAC allows for simple manual separation of the  hair, provides good visualization of the psoriasis and permits rapid treatment so that a whole scalp can often be treated in less than 15 minutes.

THE VISIBLE SIGNS.

As with psoriasis elsewhere on the body, scalp psoriasis can be mild, with slight, fine scaling and  almost unnoticeable. But it can also be severe with  thick, plaques covering the entire scalp. People with scalp psoriasis are commonly embarrassed by their appearance, which can negatively affect their mental and physical well-being.

The visible signs often extend beyond the hairline onto
the forehead, the back of the neck and around the
ears. Depending on the severity, symptoms of scalp

Vitiligo

Those who develop vitiligo usually first notice white patches (depigmentation) on their skin, most commonly on sun-exposed areas of the body, including the hands, feet, arms, face, and lips. Other commonly affected areas are the armpits, groin and around the mouth, eyes, nostrils and navel.

THE DISORDER GENERALLY APPEARS IN ONE OF THREE PATTERNS:

  • Focal, where depigmentation is limited to one or
    only a few areas.
  • Segmental, where patches develop on one side of
    the body only.
  • Generalized Pattern—the most common pattern
    —where depigmentation occurs symmetrically on
    both sides of the body.

In addition to white patches on the skin, vitiligo
patients may have premature graying of the
scalp, hair, eyelashes, eyebrows, and beard.

Atopic dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis is a long-term condition affecting more than 30 million American men, women  and children—most who are diagnosed before the age of 5.

Thought to be triggered by an overactive immune system that responds aggressively to irritants, viruses and bacteria, Atopic dermatitis may flare periodically, subside, then flare again.

While there is no known cure for the disease, treatments —like XTRAC — can clear the symptoms and reduce flare-ups considerably.
